As thousands of students across the country have gathered to protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act that was recently passed in both Houses of the Parliament, a number of celebrities have also joined in to rebuke the excessive force used by police in the protests organized by students of the Jamia Millia Islamia university in the national capital on Sunday, December 15.

Karthik Subbaraj, director of Rajinikanth's most recent venture 'Petta', has condemned the CAA, claiming that it goes against secularism, an ideology that India supposedly follows. Citizenship Amendment Act - Sounds seriously wrong & against Secularism.. Let's keep India Secular Say NO to CAA Say NO to NRC Say NO to Police Violence on Students. #IndiaAgainstCAB #JamiaProtests (sic), his tweet read.

Under the Citizenship Amendment Bill, which is now a law, illegal migrants of the Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, Parsi, and Christian communities who have come from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan, until December 31, 2014, will be eligible for Indian citizenship.
