'Jigarthanda' may be one of the highly acclaimed and commercially successful films of 2014. But the film`s director Karthick Subbaraj and its producer Kathiresan have been in loggerheads even before the release of the film and the tug of war` between the two even enter the court.
A few months back, director Karthick Subbaraj announced that he will be launching a case in the Madras High Court to restrain the Hindi remake of the film as the film`s producer Kathiresan. The Pizza` directed had alleged that Kathiresan violated the terms of the contract in which he had agreed to give 40% of revenue from the Hindi remake rights of the film with the director but went ahead with the Bollywood remake plans without informing him about anything.
However the Court seems to have ruled in favor of Kathiresan as it found that all rights related to the film are vested with the producer.
Now Kathiresan side alleges that due to Karthik Subbaraj`s efforts to stop releasing the film simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu they have suffered a loss to the tune of five crores.
In a Press meet held on Friday, Kathiresan` wife Kalaichelvi alleged that they could not get the expected revenue from the Telugu version of the film as it is going to be released only now that is almost one year after the release of the Tamil version.
Kalaichelvi and Kathiresan`s lawyer S. Muthuraman stated that they are planning to file a defamation suit against Karthick Subbaraj for causing defame to Kathiresan`s production house.
