Vijay Sethupathi, the busies lead actor in the country currently has played a small role as Karthi's friend in 'Naan Mahaan Alla' released in 2010. After that both their careers took off and are right on top of their game in different spheres. Vijay Sethupathi was approached for the chief antagonist role in Karthi's new movie 'Japan' which releases on Diwali this year. He refused and Tollywood actor Sunil replaced him.

Now the strong buzz is that Vijay Sethupathi has now agreed to star as the main villain in Karthi's 'Sardar 2' which is currently under preproduction. Though no agreements have been signed yet the role is said to be a very interesting one that VJS has never done before and he is keen to get on board provided there is availability of dates at the time the project goes on floors.

The spy thriller 'Sardar' directed by P.S. Mithran which was released in 2022 scored big at the box office and won critical acclaim. It was announced that the sequel is in the works at the success meet. Prince Pictures the producer of the project already has Vijay Sethupathi's dates and might utilise it for this project. Vijay Sethupathi's releasing this year is Shah Rukh Khan's 'Jawan' directed by Atlee on September 7th and 'Merry Christmas' directed by Sriram Raghavan on December 15th in which he is costarring with Katrina Kaif.
