Suriya and Karthi are the power siblings of Kollywood who have blazed their own trails in South Indian cinema. They are not only two of the most bankable stars but are unrivaled when it comes to philantropic activities. Suriya head the Agaram Foundation which strives to educate thousands of underpriveliged children while Karthi gives a helping hand to farmer through his Uzhavan Foundation.
On Saturday the Uzhavan Awards were given to deserving farmers who got rupees one lakh. Suriya during his speech asked his younger brother what inspired him to take up the cause of farmers to which his reply amazed those present.
Karthi said that he was drawn to philanthropy because of Suriya's own achievements through Agaram. He said that he researched on what NGO's missed with regards to agriculture and he found a way to fill that gap.
The top hero added "Only then did I realize how noble agriculture is. A plant that grows in one soil does not in another. We are living in fast times where results are expected instantly. But in the case of a farmer there is a huge process from sowing the seeds to watering it, weeding and protecting and finally harvesting it. That demands a lot of patience and that is why this platform is created to honor those noble farmers."
Sivakumar in his speech wept on stage when he mentioned that his own mother was a farmer who was widowed when he was just 10 months old and she selflessly toiled to bring him up. It was agriculture that made him what he is today and his sons are the grandchildren of a poor farmer is what the legendary actor had to say.
