Chief justice of India Ranjan Gogoi has warned Karthi Chidambaram, son of former Union minister P Chidambaram, who has been accused in the Aircel - Maxis deal and INX media cases. After warning that he cannot be play around with law, added that the Supreme court might take severe action on him if he continues the same.
Earlier, Karthi Chidambaram had sought permission to travel abroad between February 21-28, following which the Supreme court has ordered him to appear before the enforcement directorate on March 5,6 and 7, in connection to the Aircel-Maxis and INX media money laundering cases, besides instructing him to deposit 10 crores if he has to travel abroad.
During the hearing, CJI Ranjan Gogoi said that Karthi can go wherever he wants to, and do whatever he wants to, but must not play around law, adding that the Supreme court will come down heavily in case of non-cooperation. The accusation on Karthi Chidambaram and his father P Chidambaram is that the latter's power as a finance minister in previous UPA government was misused in giving approvals to Maxis for acquiring Aircel, and the scams in foreign investments in INX Media.
