Karnataka Congress MLA Ravi Ganiga from Mandya criticized actress Rashmika Mandanna for reportedly refusing the state government’s invitation to the Bengaluru International Film Festival (BIFF). He accused Rashmika of disrespecting the Kannada film industry and Karnataka, stating that she “must be taught a lesson” for forgetting her roots.
Speaking to the media at the Vidhan Soudha in Bengaluru, the MLA claimed that another legislator had visited Rashmika’s home 10-12 times to personally invite her. However, she allegedly declined, saying, “I have my residence in Hyderabad. I don’t know where Karnataka is, and I do not have time to come.” He warned that such an attitude could have consequences.
Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar also expressed disappointment over Kannada actors who skipped the festival’s opening ceremony. He strongly stated that he knew how to “tighten the nuts and bolts” and would take necessary action. He highlighted that veteran actor Shiva Rajkumar attended despite undergoing cancer treatment, making the absence of other actors even more disappointing.
Rashmika recently sparked controversy when she said, “I am from Hyderabad,” during promotions for her film Chhaava. She began her acting career in the Kannada film industry with the 2016 hit Kirik Party alongside Rakshit Shetty.
