A few days back pictures of Karnataka industrialist Srinivasa Gupta inaugurating his palatial bungalow house went viral. The unique and emotional thing about it is that his wife Madhavi had passed away in 2017 in a road accident but she was present on the occasion.
The story behind the dead person being there in her dream house was possible when Srinivas hit upon the idea to sculpt a statue of her and now it has become the talk of the town. People are not only praising the husband who has shown his everlasting love for his wife but also the sculptor who made such a realistic-looking statue that is full of life.
We got in touch with the sculptor of the statue Sridhar Moorthy for an exclusive interview in which he has shared the effort and the emotions that went behind the making of the now globally famous statue.
Sridhar is a temple sculptor and his house is filled with divine statues and other artwork. He belongs to a family of sculptors who have been in business for centuries according to him. He states that when Gupta approached him he was amazed and also emotionally involved and accepted the assignement.
Sridhar had suggested that wax statues which usually are made was not suitable for keeping in the house due to various factors and he opted for rubber silicon material. This new innovation is long lasting and it can also be customized by the family by changing jewellery, dress and hairstyle.
