Karnataka has been witnessing a major political crisis since last week. With several MLAs tendering resignation, the HD Kumaraswamy government is so close to losing its majority status in the Assembly. HDK reportedly made a desperate and optimistic attempt on Sunday evening to save his government from crumbling. Three JDS rebels were reportedly offered ministerial berths with the support of the Congress party.
However, the crisis has only been worsening. On Monday morning, an Independent MLA resigned and said that he would support the BJP. Also, a Congress MP said that all the Ministers in the government "are going to resign".
Congress leader in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury lashed out at the saffron party for "orchestrating the government's fall". "We will try to raise the Karnataka issue in Parliament but we won't reveal our weapons. But it is clear that BJP is a 'poacher' party," he said.
DK Suresh, a Congress MP said that BJP's national leaders (especially Amit Shah) are behind the crisis. "They don’t want this government or any opposition party to rule in the state or in the country. They are destroying democracy," he has been quoted as saying.
As for the saffron party, it is counter-attacking Congress's charges. "When Congress was ruling at the Centre, they were using the Governor’s office for their party. BJP has no culture of using Governor’s office," a leader of the BJP said.
