Karnataka: BJP government to free Hindu temples

The BJP government in Karnataka has buoyed the mood of devout Hindus by saying that thousands of Hindu temples in the State would be given autonomy. They will be freed from state control.

In his latest budget speech, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that funds will be allocated for the welfare of cows. Subsidies will be provided for Kashi Yatra as well. Almost 30,000 pilgrims will be provided Rs 5,000 each for pilgrimage to Varanasi.

The decision to free temples from government control has been welcomed by many. Such an important decision for the Hindu community by the Karnataka CM. I hope that the decision will be implemented without further caveats and the temples will be finally back to the Hindu community. What BS Yedyurappa had done partially earlier, Bommai has taken it to its logical end, wrote social media user Satish Verma.

Columnist and Hindu scholar Dr David Frawley said, Independence from outside rule for India's magnificent temples is long overdue. It is necessary for the inner independence of the country and for reclaiming its vast cultural heritage. Glad to see Karnataka taking the lead.
