One of the biggest and most successful filmmakers of Bollywood, Karan Johar often faces a lot of trolling and backlash for one reason or the other. He is often called "flag bearer of nepotism" and is accused of favouring starkids over outsiders. Despite all that, Karan never shies away from sharing his opinion about things related to his business and projects.
In a recent podcast, Karan shared how tricky it can be to be a film producer. Recalling an advice his father gave him, the filmmaker said, “A film never fails, a budget does.” Johar further added, “Like I told you about Student Of The Year. Like I made a hit film and lost my money. I literally popped a pill every night.”
Talking about the exponential rise of Telugu cinema in last few years, Karan said, “I have so much emotion. My heart lies in Hindi cinema. But if you ask me, as a business person, I think Telugu is a far more lucrative industry.”
In a time when Bollywood films are struggling to make decent box office numbers, Karan expressed his displeasure with actors who demand insanely high fees. Talking about how the profits of a film are shared, Karan said, “Unfortunately, a pie of that is with the movie stars. I might be murdered for saying this, but if you are opening to five crores and you are asking me for 20 crores, how is that fair? Delusion is one disease that has no vaccine.”
