Karan Johar bankrolled the film 'Shershah' which was released during the Independence Day weekend. The film received massive applause from critcs and fans alike. Coincidentally, 'Gunjan Saxena', another movie about a Kargil hero bankrolled by Karan, was released on the Independence Day weekend last year. Apparently Karan Johar has decided to release a movie about an unsung hero of the country every year on Independence Day.
He is currently planning to do a film on freedom fighter Usha Mehta. A source close to the filmmaker stated, "The idea now is to produce a film about an unsung national hero every year. It started as a one-off thing when Karan Johar produced Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl about the Indian first air force pilot. Now this year in 2021 Shershaah about Paramvir Chakra winner Vikram Batra has also been well received. Karan is now on to his third film on a national hero Usha Mehta which will be directed by Kannan Iyer who directed the eerie Ek Thi Dayan in 2013. The hunt is on to gather the names and achievements of other soldiers, war heroes and freedom fighters."
In an era when movies/shows about crime and criminals dominate the market, Karan's movies about country's heroes will be a welcome change of pace.
