Released in 1989, the rural entertainer Karagattakaran starring Ramarajan, Kanaga, Goundamani, Senthil, Vaagai Chandrasekhar, Santhana Bharathi, Gandhimathi, Shanmugasundaram and Kovai Sarala was a massive blockbuster, with superhit songs composed by Isaignani Ilaiyaraja and ran for more than an year in theaters.

Till date, the fun comedy track featuring Goundamani - Senthil and Kovai Sarala evokes huge laughs and the Banana comedy is celebrated even now. It has been revealed now that this classic hit movie is all set to have its sequel now, and director Gangai Amaran has also confirmed on the same in a recent interview.

He had said that talks are on with actors like Ramarajan and all who were part of the 1989 flick, and the plot will be revolving around the sons and daughters of central characters of Karagattakaran and the characters from the original as well, and discussions are on to decide on the current gen actors to star in this sequel. It must be noted that another 80s classic Aan paavam directed by Pandiarajan had its sequel Kai Vandha Kalai released in 2006.
