Kapil Devs reaction on Deepika Padukone playing his wife in 83

The release of Kabir Khan's '83' is just few weeks away and it's been getting tremendous response from fans. The teaser, posters and trailers have all been appreciated for brilliantly capturing the atmosphere of 1983 Cricket World Cup and it seems like cast members, especially Ranveer Singh who is playing Kapil Dev, have adapted to their characters really well. Ranveer Singh's real life wife actress Deepika Padukone plays Kapil's wife Romi Bhatia in the film.

During a recent media interaction, Kapil Dev revealed how his family responded to the casting of Deepika Padukone as his wife. Kapil told The Quint, "I think mixed because I don’t know how much the role of my wife is in 83, so one does not realise that what they are trying to do there." However, the former cricketer was quite happy that someone as talented as Ranveer Singh has been chosen to play him. He also praised Ranveer for putting up with all the challenges that came with his preparation.

Ranveer Singh also shared some kind words for Kapil Dev. In an earlier interview, he told Hindustan Times, “Kapil sir and his family are very warm, kind and generous people. I’ll be ever grateful to them for being so magnanimous in helping me during this unique character study. Their large-heartedness was touching… something I’ll never forget. They’ve blessed me.”
