Taking the linguistic love to another level, Karnataka's Congress chief-minister Siddaramaiah has announced that nameplates at Airports/Railway Stations to be put up only in bilingual - Kannada and English, putting Hindi away for the time being.

Usually, name plates/sign boards at railway stations and airports across the country bear data in English and Hindi but Siddaramaiah has insisted that Kannada would take the place of Hindi in Karnataka. Stating that Kannada language should find prominence in the State, he announced that airports/metro rail stations would have information in name plates only in Kannada and English.

On another note, he dismissed demands for resignation of Bangalore Development Minister K.J. George, whose name features prominently in the FIR filed by the CBI in the suicide/suspicious demise of formerDSP Ganapathy.  “Yediyurappa seeks George’s resignation, forgetting that he also faces many corruption/fraud charges.  Would he resign thepost of State BJP president in the backdrop of these charges?

“Merely being named in an FIR doesn’t make anybody a criminal; as such, George volunteered to resign last year itself when the issue broke out.  Asking him to do so twice in a case is meaningless,” the chief-minister said.
