It is reported that DMK’s high-profile Rajya Sabha M.P. Kanimozhi is said to be making ‘deft moves’ to prepare herself to contest next year’s Lok Sabha polls.
It may be noted that Kanimozhi’s tenure as the Member of the Upper House of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) ends next July before which Lok Sabha elections would have to be held across the country by April-May. Kanimozhi, the daughter of the DMK patriarch M. Karunanidhi, is said to be making ‘calculated and deft’ moves so as to context next year’s Lok Sabha polls as she is counting on the support of people of ‘Muthariayr’, ‘Vanniyar’, ‘Naadar’ and ‘Reddiyar’ communities.
Kanimozhi has been very vocal ever since she and former Union Telecom Minister A. Raja were acquitted from the multi-crore ‘2-G scam’ last December by Justice O.P. Saini of a special CBI Court who had pulled up the country’s premier investigating agency for not substantiating their allegations against Raja and Kanimozhi with ‘solid evidences’. Kanimozhi is likely to contest the LS polls from Villupuram, Cuddalore, Trichy or Tuticorin which have huge pockets of people of the above-said communities.
At the same time, Kanimozhi is also attempting to gain a strong position within the party (she is already the president of the party’s women’s wing) by getting the all important post of treasurer (held for many years by her half-brother Stalin) or deputy general secretary.
