DMK’s high-profile Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi has condemned the AIADMK Govt. in the State for according ‘red-carpet’ welcome to Prime Minister Narendra Modi instead of holding black flag demonstration against the latter’s visit to Chennai yesterday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Chennai to inaugurate Defence Ministry’s Expo at Tiruvidandhai off Chennai and also take part in the diamond-jubilee celebrations of the famed Adyar Cancer Institute. His visit though, was greeted with black-flags by many political party cadres, thus forcing the Prime Minister to travel by chopper to Mamallapuram instead of going by road (car) from the Airport to Tiruvidandhai.
Donning a black saree and holding a black flag, Kanimozhi took part in the huge protest organized by the DMK in Saidapet near the ‘Karunanidhi Arch’. Daughter of party president M. Karunanidhi, Kanimozhi is also the women’s wing president of the party. Many DMK leaders, functionaries and her brother M.K. Tamilarasu took part in the Saidapet demonstration against the Prime Minister’s visit to Chennai.
“Even as the entire State is organizing black-flag demonstration against the Prime Minister, it is highly condemnable that the State Govt. has rolled out a red carpet to the Prime Minister who didn’t bother to meet Tamil MPs some time back to discuss the Cauvery issue. It is high time he understood the Tamils’ anger and what it could do. According formal welcome to the Prime Minister shows the cowardly nature of the AIADMK regime in the State,” Kanimozhi said.
