Readers may be aware that actress Kangna Ranaut had played yesteryear actress Praveen Babi in Mahesh Bhatt`s emotional movie WOH LAMHE, which was inspired from Parveen Babi's life, her battle with schizophrenia and her relationship with Mahesh Bhatt to whom she was a lover as well as a mentor in his struggling days.
According to recent reports Kangna Ranaut has now been approached by film producer Sunil Bohra who is toying of making a biopic on the legendary actress Meena Kumari , who ruled Bollywood in the 50`s and 60`s with hit films like PARINEETA, BAIJU BAWRA, PAKEEZAH, SAAHIB BIBI AUR GHULAM and DIL APNA AUR PREET PARAI, DIL EK MANDIR etc to her credit.
According to reports Sunil Bohra who owns the right of eminent journalist, Vinod Mehta's book, Meena Kumari: The Classic Biography is making an adaption of the same book and has roped in Tigmanshu Dhulia, the famous director who made PAAN SINGH TOMAR and SAHEB BIWI AUR GANGSTER to direct the film.
Kangna Ranaut, who had earlier played an actress role of the 70`s in Milan Luthria's ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAI has read the book. She is quite excited about the role because Meena Kumari`s life was packed with many upheavals and this would give an excellent opportunity for Kangna to explore her histrionics.
Interestedly the role was initially offered to Manisha Koirala but the movie went into trouble after Tajdar Amrohi, son of late filmmaker Kamal Amrohi and stepson of legendary actress Meena Kumari, raised eyebrows that movie was made without his consent.
Tajdar Amrohi was angrier because he himself is making a movie on Meena Kumari. Lambasting Tigmanshu Dhulia he told media, "People want to dig up the dead, without having the decency of realizing that it may hurt the feelings of those close to her. Tigmanshu is a good filmmaker, but he should have come to me first for my inputs before making the announcement. I'm here to protect my chhoti ammi's integrity. I've always considered her my mother, not stepmother.
Besides, I'm already making a film on her called MEENA BAA KAMAAL (Meena - the extraordinary), starring a newcomer who bears an uncanny resemblance to her.
