A sequel to 'Muni' made many raise their eye-brows. At a time when the first part itself witnessed a mediocre response in the box-office, the purpose of doing a part-two did pave way to many doubts.

However, actor-director Lawrence Raghavendra has taken it in his stride making the film, loaded with fun and thrills. His hard work is visible but the question that ponders our mind is whether it ends up as an engaging fare.

To ensure that those who missed out Muni, Lawrence has revisited the first part, taken the same set of characters and tried to inject more pace. He goes on a rampage with them. A horror film ought to touch spirits and ghosts, their vengeance and so does 'Kanchana'.

Lawrence Raghavendra plays a fearing young man and there begins the story. How he overcomes his trembles makes up the rest. Add few interesting characters and fizz to the story- you end up with 'Kanchana'.

Lawrence has ensured that the movie has a strong flashback that lends solidity to the script. Dwelling more on it would end up spoiling the little fun we derive watching such genre of films.

'Kanchana' manages to give the chills and thrills to the viewers, but in parts. Predominantly aimed at appeasing children, Lawrence has laced humour even in horror scenes. With Lakshmi Rai around, there is scope for loads of glamour too.

The movie revolves around Lawrence who plays Raghava, a youth who fears for anything. So afraid that he dares steps out his house in dark. His mother (Kovai Sarala) is his pillar of strength.

As it happens he comes across strange things in life, quite typical to movies of horror community. He slowly behaves like a possessed woman and all hell breaks loose. There is Lakshmi Rai as his lady love providing some interesting moments. Watch out for a bravado cameo by Sarath Kumar.

Lawrence is convincing. Be it humour, action or romance, he is there. As usual excels in dancing floors. Lakshmi Rai brings freshness with her oomph factor while Kovai Sarala is there to make you smile. The surprise is Sarath Kumar.

Music by Thaman is average. Some times doesn't sync with the story. 'Kanchana', produced by Sri Thenandal Films, on the whole is an attempt that is well begun but half done.

Rating: 0 / 5.0
