Kanakasimhasanam
Whenever Jayaram teamed up with his favorite director Rajasenan, they were into something that was quickly digestible family stuff. And now, they are coming up once again with Kanaksimhasanam - a movie made in the premises of running a ballet troupe.
The creators of the movie will also be looking on the fact that whenever films were made in the background of stories revolving around performing arts like theatres ala Yavanika, Puthukkottayile Puthumanavalan and Ramji Rao Speaking, they quickly became super hits.
Jayaram plays Kasargode Kanakambaran, the owner and lead actor of Kottaram Theatres, a drama ballet troupe that specializes in epic themes like Ramayanam, Sakunthalam and Vikramadithyan. In all these dramas Kanakambaran plays the lead role of the king and it is always Marthandom Bharathi (Karthika) his wife who plays the queen.
Kanakambaran's father, who managed the troupe earlier, withdrew from the running of the troupe owing to differences with his son after the latter married Marthandom Bharathi. Even though the troupe didn't made profits, it was Kanakambaran's father who wanted the troupe's continuous performance till he breathed his last.
As the responsibility for running the troupe fell on Kanakambaram's shoulders, he has to borrow money at high interest to keep the show going and is soon up to his neck in debt. Even the actors who wanted to quit from the troupe couldn't do so as Kanakambaran owed them plenty of money. Whatever gate collection the troupe makes from each shows were taken away by his creditors who come directly to the venues to collect their dues.
Day after day situations turned out worse and the creditors started beating up Kanakambaram. At this juncture came a big offer from Kaanthapuram palace, for the play. Upendravarama and Radhakrishnavarma who came to book the play has but only one condition - Kanakan has to make a play based on the incidents in the palace. For that, they offered a very big amount as remuneration. As far as the payment is prompt and in cash, Kanakambaran has no other options but to accept the offer. What follows is the risks and dilemma that the troupe falls into following their entry into Kaanthapuram palace for the play.
The film'Kanakasimhasanamas usual narrated in a humorous vein will combine the best of the sequences written by Biju Vattappara based on a story by the director Rajasenan. The film has Lakshmi Gopalaswamy, Kalashala Babu, Suraaj Venjaaramoodu, Kochupreman and Kiranraaj in other prominent roles.
The film also has four songs written by Rajeev Alungal set to music by M.Jayachandran. K.P.Nambiathiry wields the camera while M.Mani produces the film under the prestigious banner of Sunitha productions. The film which was shot in Ootty will grace the theatres as the first release of the New Year.
