The Indian Government has been providing LPG cylinders for residential purpose in a subsidised rate. The government supposedly incurs an expenditure of Rs.40 thousand crores per year to reimburse the subsidy amount to the oil companies which deliver the cylinders to residential customers.

The NDA government lead by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been appealing to financially well off consumers to forego the subsidy given for LPG cylinders. This campaign has been successful in making more than six lakh consumers across the country to refuse the subsidy.

This list includes prominent celebrities from Kollywood also. Actors Kamal Haasan. Prabhu, Directors Mani Ratnam, Shankar, singers Vijay Yesudas and Chinmayi are included in the list of those who have given up the LPG subsidy they have been so far receiving as residential consumers, to help the nation serve the poor better.
