The man of awards and rewards, veteran actor Ulaganayagan` Kamal Hassan joins the proud sexagenarian club today. Yes fans and movie buffs across the globe will be celebrating the star's 60th birthday on November 7, 2014 while the socially conscious celebrity will make this birthday the most worthwhile by undertaking the Clean India campaign on behalf of his fans club which has been converted as a Narpani mandram or an organisation to carry out good deeds for the society.
A man turning 60 is pretty auspicious as per the Hindu tradition and it will be celebrated by performing rituals. However the self proclaimed atheist who does not believe in any religion will be getting himself busy with the humane cause on the day, vouching his claim that he deems serving hands as worthier than chanting mouths. He will be spearheading the Clean India campaign in Chennai as he was chosen as one of the nine eminent Indian celebrities by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inspire people to achieve the dream of Litter free India` within 2nd October 2019, the 140th birthday of Mahatma Gandhi. Kamal, being an ardent follower of the values insisted by the Father of our Nation, can not have a better reason to associate himself with this noble cause that too on his birthday.
It will be tougher for an outsider to believe that Kamal Haasan is turning 60 and has completed more than 50 years in the film industry. The 60th year in his life has been busier than the years immediately preceding it. Through out 2014 Kamal has been simultaneously working in three films, Viswaroopam II`, Uththama Villain` and Papanasam`. He has written the script for the first two and also directing the first one which is the sequel to his 2013 blockbuster flick. He also finds time to allot for his other interests, mainly literature. He keeps attending book release functions and has been a voracious reader. If invited, he makes it a point to attend any film related functions like audio releases of others films especially those relating to young and upcoming actors and filmmakers without making much ado. This is his way of encouraging his juniors in the film industry which he considers as his family. There are many actors in film industry who maintain the looks, energy as well as the fan following to remain as a hero even after 60s. Even in future many heroes of today`s generation can last for long as heroes perhaps even for longer periods than Kamal. But matching him in the amount of work and commitment he shows to whatever he takes up even at this age would require phenomenal effort which remains unparalleled until now. That also makes him worth for the title Ulaganayagan` despite criticisms that Kamal is not the world`s best since he does not command the number one slot in terms of business or in quality of the films he makes or the way he acts. But even then no film critic will be able to miss appreciating his acting prowess and tremendous abilities as a filmmaker and enthusiasm as an innovator. The list of awards he has won stands tertimony to this. The long list whose length keeps increasing includes three National awards for acting and two civilian honours viz. Padma Sri and the recently awarded Padma Bhushan.
Kamal has acted in more than 200 films and has done a variety of roles and has inspired a lot of young actors in the Indian Film Industry. Still he never claims of having achieved any big thing and if asked to name his favorite film among the ones he has acted in, he would simple say it is the one he was currently working on. Like that his fans and movie buffs will always be eager to wait and watch what he has to offer new in his next outing and his every film has justified the expectation and this will be the trend for many many years to come.
We at Indiaglitz take pleasure in wishing this man of myriad achievements, the unparalleled actor of Indian cinema, a many happy returns of the day!!!
