In a historic move, the Kerala government has decided to make the mention of caste and religion in birth certificates not mandatory. The decision has not only appeased the state’s populace but also appreciation from other political parties as well.

Kamal Hassan, who is close to the Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan also congratulated the move.  Stating that the decision was historic, Kamla also said that even he has refused to fill the caste and religion columns of his own daughters.

“Bravo again Kerala Government. Your circular is historic. I have refused filling caste and religion columns in my daughter’s birth certificate. Shruti has chosen to be a Hindu. Akshara might stay without caste or religion,” Kamal stated.

When the move is being highly appreciated by everybody even receiving praise from Kamal Hassan, people are wondering if it would be a possibility in Tamil Nadu as well.
