The Indian Space research organization lost contact with the Vikram lander around 2.1 km over the lunar surface during India's attempt to land a spacecraft on moon’s surface. As said by ISRO chairman Dr Sivan, Vikram lander descent was as planned and normal performance was observed up to an altitude of 2.1 km and then the communication from lander to ground stations was lost.
The nation had been shocked as they were watching the descent live, and even as the ISRO teams are investigating what happened, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on the mission, and later also consoled Dr Sivan hugging him and saying that India is proud of its scientists.
Actor and politician Kamal Haasan has tweeted that this is not a failure and it is a learning moment. "This does not tantamount to failure. In Research and Development there will be a learning curve. This, is that precious learning moment. We will soon be on the Moon, Thanks to #ISRO. The Nation believes and applauds ISRO" read his tweet.
