Kollywood has been brought to a standstill from March 16th, with all the 800 odd theaters outside Chennai downing the shutters in protest against local taxes levied on top of GST.  Furthermore the Producers Council has stopped all activities related to cinema right from shooting to post production and have also banned all events like audio or movie launch.

On Saturday night Vishal paid a visit to Kamal Haasan at his Alwarpet office and the meeting lasted just five minutes.  The Producer Council president speaking to newsmen stated that the Makkal Needhi Maiam leader always gives his support to cinema and the current issues were discussed.  It is still unknown what advice Kamal gave and whether there is a chance of the strike coming to an end soon.
