Was 'Vikram' originally written for Rajinikanth's 'Thalaivar 169'? - Official clarification

With just ten days to go for the biggie of the year 'Vikram' to release worldwide on June 3rd, they hype is increasing day by day. Director Lokesh Kanagaraj is busy giving interviews round the clock to set the right expectations for the mega action thriller. The film has music by Anirudh and brings together the powerhouse actors of Indian cinema Kamal, Vijay Sethupathi and Fahadh Faasil.

We broke the new the earliest to you in early 2020 that Superstar Rajinikanth will be acting in Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan's banner Raaj Kamal Films International and that Lokesh Kanagaraj will be directing it. The film which then was 'Thalaivar 169' was to have gone on floors immediately after the release of Thalapathy Vijay's 'Master' in its scheduled April 14th, 2020 release date.

However due to the coronavirus pandemic 'Master' was delayed and 'Thalaivar 169' whch could have brought Rajini and Kamal together after several decades got stuck. Later the film was announced with Nelson Dilipkumar as director.

In one of his recent interviews Lokesh was asked if 'Vikram' was the story narrated to Superstar Rajinikanth and later Kamal replaced him. The sensational filmmaker has clarified that the story that was developed for Rajini is entirely different and this one materialized from a character idea that Kamal had in mind before 35 years.

Lokesh has also hinted that 'Thalaivar 169' did not happen only due to the COVID 19 situation and will be revived anytime in the future.
