In a move to rationalise its syllabus, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has deleted chapters on federalism, citizenship, nationalism, and secularism from the political science syllabus of Class 11 for the academic year 2020-21. Besides, sections like ‘Why do we need Local Governments?’ and ‘Growth of Local Government in India’ were also removed.
This move by the CBSE has been opposed by netizens, who have called it as an attempt to prevent knowledge imparting to younger generation about the constitution and politics. Makkal needhi maiam president and actor Kamal Haasan has sarcastically taken a dig at this move, suggesting CBSE to instead add Hitler's biography to their syllabus.
Kamal Haasan tweeted "Secularism, Ctizenship, Democratic rights and GST are the chapters deleted from the CBSE syllabus to reduce students' stress! Probably, they should add Mein Kampf, the History of Ku Klux Klan and Marquis De Sade's Justine as students' stress busters!".
