The controversy of the arrest of Sophia at the Tuticorin airport for reportedly raising anti BJP slogans at Tamil Nadu leader Tamilisai Soundarajan has become a trending topic nationwide. It has also been reported that Sophia who was remanded for fifteen days has been granted bail by the Tuticorin court.

The Makkal Neethi Maiam leader Kamal Haasan has slammed Sophia's arrest stating that if raising voices in public is a crime then all the politicians are guilty. We are bailing out Sophia from prison while the politicians roam free, he lamented adding that he is fully aware that he too is one of them (politician).
