Kamal Haasan asks court to quash case against Mani Ratnam and 49 others

A sedition case has been filed against director Mani Ratnam and 49 others including Anurag Kashyap, Revathi, Ramachandra Guha, Konkana Sen Sharma, and Aparna Sen. The celebrities earlier this year wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to stop the growing threat of lynching people of the minorities citing religious and cultural reasons.

The FIR was filed at the Muzaffarpur police station in Bihar on an order passed by the Chief Judicial Magistrate Surya Kant Tiwari based on a case filed by an advocate Sudhir Kumar Ojha.

Kamal Haasan has requested the court "I request as a citizen that Our Higher courts move in to uphold justice with Democracy and quash the case emanating from Bihar. The Prime minister seeks a harmonious India. His statements in the parliament confirm it. Should not the state and its law follow it in letter and spirit? 49 of my peers have been accused, of sedition, contradicting the PM's aspirations."
