'Thirakkatha' is a memorial tribute to the actresses of yesteryear, who had been the graceful, popular figures in cinema during their younger ages with patronage and later got completely disregarded by the industry, media and the masses alike.
ÂI acquired the inspiration for this story when I heard the news that Sreevidhya during her last days at the hospital allowed multi faceted actor Kamal Haasan, with whom she shared the lead in many films of the late seventies, to visit her. The actress was quite sentient about concealing her disease from the media and didn't want them to visit her at the hospital in such a state from the fatal disease. She was self conscious about disallowing the people of the industry to see her. But in the case of Kamal Haasan, I think she responded quite differently ' said director Renjith on the making of his new film 'Thirakkatha' which is reaping rave reviews from the viewers.
Renjith was talking to the press in the Âface to face' programme organized by Calicut Press Club.
'It is very hard these days in Malayalam to find a producer to make a good cinema. In the eighties, classic film makers of Malayalam like Padmarajan and Bharathan were lucky enough to have producers like Gandhimathi Balan who supported them with lucre to undertake benevolent works. Even in Tamil, fresh and distinct experimental films don't find difficulty to obtain noteworthy producers. But in Malayalam, the situation is totally different' observed Renjith.
The producer of 'Thirakkatha' Subair, actor Augustine and Samvrutha Sunil accompanied the director Renjith to attend the press meeting.
