Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Haasan and director Shankar had collaborated for the first time way back in 1996 with the blockbuster movie Indian, that had Kamal in dual roles as the freedom fighter father who now has to fight corruption, and his son, a corrupt break inspector. The movie shattered all existing box office records then, and still stands as a benchmark for vigilante flicks.

Though the actor and the director were supposed to join hands for Robot, also starring Preity Zinta, the project didn't materialize, and Superstar Rajnikanth went on to star in it. 23 years later, Kamal and Shankar have reunited for the sequel to Indian, Indian 2, which went on floors yesterday in Chennai. While the first part was produced by AM Ratnam's Sri Surya movies, the sequel Indian 2 is bankrolled by Lyca Productions Subaskaran.

Following its launch yesterday, the core team of Indian 2, which has Kajal Aggarwal as the female lead, has been announced. Indian 2 will have music by young sensation Anirudh, cinematography by Ravi Varman ISC who had earlier worked in Kamal's Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu and Dasavatharam, and national award winner Sreekar Prasad will be the editor.
