Indian 2, Kamal Haasan's long-awaited movie, came out yesterday to mostly mixed reviews from both audiences and reviewers. Information regarding the first-day box office collecting of the movie has gone viral on the internet as the buzz surrounding it keeps on.
Launched across more than 5,000 theatres around the globe, 700 of those venues were in Tamil Nadu. The movie attracted an amazing Rs 55 crore on its first day and had pre-booking of about Rs 20 crore. Still, this is less than the first-day sales of Kamal Haasan's past movie, "Vikram," which brought in Rs 65 crore worldwide.
'Indian 2' is witnessing high attendance despite a small decline in starting earnings; almost sold-out events across all venues tonight and tomorrow. Industry insiders estimate that throughout the three-day weekend from Friday to Sunday, the movie might earn up to Rs 200 crore in overall receipts.
The issue still is whether "Indian 2" will be able to recover its high production cost—which is projected to be about Rs 300 crore. All eyes are on the box office as the weekend goes on to see whether the movie's sales will satisfy expectations and guarantee a successful return for the producing business.
