Veteran actor Sathyaraj has expressed regret to the Kannada people for hurting their sentiments while speaking in a protest organised by Tamil Film industry organisations in 2009 in connection with Kaveri water sharing issue between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Sathyaraj has done this after Kannadiga organisations have threatened to stall the release of 'Baahubali 2' if Sathyaraj did not apologise for his comment.

While Sathyaraj's measured response for the demand keeping in mind the larger interests of a film that involves the hardwork of thousands of people.has evoked mixed response with majority of people hailing the Puratchi Tamizhan for his matured behaviour.

Now Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan has appreciated Sathyaraj for his rationality in a troubled environment. The Ulaganayagan has invoked the famous dialogue he had written for his 2004 film 'Virumaandi' to praise Sathyaraj's response to the entire issue.

"மன்னிக்க தெரிஞ்சவன் மனுஷன்; மன்னிப்பு கேட்க தெரிஞ்சவன் பெரிய மனுஷன் ” (One who knows to forgive is a human; one who knows to apologise is a great human) is that dialogue from the film.
