Kamal Haasan courted controversy by stating that the first terrorist of India was a Hindu referring to Nathuram Godse who assassinated Mahatma Gandhiji. Several cases are being registered against him and an FIR has been filed in the Aruvankurichi where he made the speech.
Kamal sought the Madurai branch of the Madras High Court to hear the case urgently and to dismiss it. But the court pointing out that it is on vacation refused to take up the case but adviced that it would consider an anticipatory bail petition which was accepted by Kamal's council and has filed it.
Kamal resumed his election campaign at Thoppur in Thiruparankundram constituency in Madurai where he stated that his speech was misunderstood and that he only pointed out a historical fact that Godse killed Gandhi. He further assured that he never speaks to hurt anyone and if it did hurt he is ready to medicate as he wants every citizen to be united. Kamal urged the people to oust the present ruling government from power.
