Post the elections in Tamil Nadu on April 18, there was an unexpected, shocking violence in Ponparappi village in Ariyalur district, caused by Vanniyars, which started as an argument finally leading to the dominant caste members damaging houses and injuring 8 persons.
Makkal Needhi Maiam President and actor Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Haasan, shared an interesting memory from the times of his shelved mega budget project Marudhanayagam, connecting it with the Ponparappi violence.
The actor shared lines from a song he had penned along with Isaignani Ilayaraja for Marudhanayagam, and the song was about the social injustice that took place before 300 years. The actor added that while it was about a 300 year old event, its a shame for Tamils that events like the ones that happened in Ponparappi match the lyrics of the song, making it relevant even now.
