Whoa! Kamal Haasan in a Mani Ratnam film after 35 years?

The Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam combo happened only once way back in 1987 with the cult classic 'Nayagan' that rewrote history with its new style of story telling. The film also changed the path of the Ulaganayagan from an usual commercial hero to taking up only challenging roles after that.

In the past three and a half decades there have been many reports that Kamal and Mani who are also relatives off screen will be teaming up for a biggie but it never materialized. Now it looks like the combo is likely to happen this year itself but its not a full fledged one but a voiceover.

According to reports Mani Ratnam is keen to have Kamal giving voiceover to his new movie 'Ponniyin Selvan' the first part of which will release on September 30th this year. It is said that the 'Vikram' hero's voice will placed throughout the film to provide the missing links in the story. The reason is the epic is too long to fit in two and a half hours. Sources say that Kamal has readily agreed and will be dubbing soon.

Mani Ratnam has made 'Ponniyin Selvan' based on the 1955 epic novel written by Kalki Krishnamurthy. Earlier many including MGR and Kamal Haasan have tried without success to bring the story to the big screen but the ace filmmaker has pulled it off.

'Ponniyin Selvan' has music by A.R. Rahman and stars Chiyaan Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Jayaram, Prabhu, Sarathkumar, Parthiban, Rahman, Prakash Raj, Balaji Shakthivel, Nizhalgal Ravi and Vikram Prabhu among others.
