Due to the death of DMK leader M.Karunanidhi and A.K.Bose, the Assembly seats of Thiruvarur and Thiruparankundram constituencies in Tamil Nadu have fell vacant. The by-election for these two constituencies are expected to be held soon.

The two by-elections assumes importance as it is imperative for both the ruling party AIADMK and the opposition party DMK to win them. For DMK it will be a prestige issue to retain the Thiruvarur constituency since it was held by the party's long standing president who has never lost an election.

Speculations are rife that actor Kamal Haasan's Makkal Needhi Mayyam political party enter the foray in the upcoming by-elections. However Kamal who addressed the press persons at Madurai airport has quashed the rumors. He has said the Makkal Needhi Mayyam will not contest in the by-elections for these two vacant constituencies. The 'Viswaroopam' star has however said that voters should use this opportunity to teach a lesson to the faults of the rulers. Kamal said his party will work for the same.

The sexagenarian star further hinted that his party is ready to contest the Parliament elections scheduled for 2019.
