Kamal Haasan while campaigning for his Makkal Neethi Maiam candidate for the upcoming assembly byelections in Aruvankurichi stated that the first terrorist of independent India was Naturam Godse a Hindu who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi in 1948.

Kamal's statement has enraged Hindu outfits and politicians and complaints are being lodged against him in many parts of Tamil Nadu. In Aruvankurichi based on the complaint by the Hindu Munani leader Ramakrishnan an FIR has been filed against Kamal under sections 153 (A) (wanton vilification or attacks upon the religion, race, place of birth, residence, language etc of any particular group ) and 295 (A) (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings or any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs).

Since both the sections are severe there is a fear in the MNM ranks whether Kamal Haasan would be arrested. It is still unknown what Kamal's reaction in this regard.
