Producer R. Ragunathan who introduced Kamal as hero passes away

Veteran producer R. Ragunathan has passed away at his Chennai residence due to age-related issues. The thespian has made several movies under his banner RR Films and the most notable is 'Pattampoochi' released in 1975 in which Kamal Haasan was introduced as hero though he had acted as a child artiste before that. The film had Jayachithra as the heroine and Nagesh and VKR in the supporting cast.

Ragunathan was a passionate movie lover and continued to produce films till his last breath. His last movie 'Maragadha Kaadu' directed by Mangaleshwaran is ready for release and deals with the plight of indigenous people who live in the forests. The has Ajay, Raanchana, Jayashree, and Malayalam director Iliyas in the cast.
