The 1996 vigilante film 'Indian' is one of the biggest blockbusters in Kamal Haasan's career, directed by Shankar. The movie ended with the freedom fighter turned outlaw, Senapathi, fleeing the country. Ulaganayagan and Shankar reunited a few years ago for 'Indian 2.' After facing numerous setbacks, the sequel is now marching towards the finish line.
Now, the latest reports suggest that Kamal and Shankar are not only cooking Indian 2 but also 'Indian 3'. The two have decided on the threequel and already started filming Indian 3. According to a source close to the film, "Indian is the most ambitious saga of Shankar and Kamal Hasaan’s career. The premise is loaded with several sub-plots and warrants two parts to reach the conclusion. It’s not a film that is forcing itself towards a two-parter. It’s the story that has naturally led Shankar and his team to shoot for Indian 2 and Indian 3 simultaneously."
“Shankar had 6 hours of footage for Indian 2. That’s when Shankar split the sequel into a two-part saga. Once it was split into two parts, Shankar reworked it with his team of writers to have the right elevation points of introduction, interval, and climax for both films. Almost everything is in place for Indian 3. While Indian 2 is 100 percent ready, 75 percent of Indian 3 is already shot and if all goes as planned, Indian 2 and Indian 3 will be released in a span of just one year,” the source explained.
If the reports are to be believed, Indian 2 and Indian 3 will hit the screens on 2024 and 2025 respectively. Indian 2 is produced by Lyca Productions and Red Giant Movies with Kamal Haasan, Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Siddharth, Bobby Simha, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Guru Somasundaram, Samuthirakani, Vivek, Nedumudi Venu, Manobala and many other prominent stars in the cast. Anirudh Ravichander is composing the musical score for the highly anticipated project.
