Nel Jayaraman the popular Tamil Nadu agriculturist who advocated the cause of saving local grains passed away today after battling cancer for several months.  His laudable achievement is bringing back 174 varieties of traditional Tamil grains and successfully farming them.  He served as the state coordinator of Save Our Rice Campaign.

The Makkal Neethi Maiam leader Kamal Haasan in his condolence message has stated "Realizing that the Tamil culture and tradition is entwined with food habits Nel Jayaraman rescued the grains and preserved them.  His passing away is an irreparable loss for all of us.  Like how he preserved our grains we all should join hands to preserve his thoughts and vision."
