Last week, following the announcement of the relaxations in the lockdown, wine shops were opened in many cities, and Tamil Nadu government had announced opening of TASMAC from May 7. However after cases were filed against this move, the high court ordered closure of TASMAC.
Now, even as the cases in Tamil Nadu are witnessing a huge increase and the state becoming number 2 in the list of states of maximum number of Coronavirus positive cases, again the government has appealed in the supreme court to reopen TASMAC.
Condemning this, Makkal needhi maiam president Kamal Haasan has tweeted "Tamil Nadu which must have been the number one in progress, is now going backwards and from eighth position the state has reached number 2. With the greed for money, Tamil Nadu government is fighting cases to open wineshops".
