Kamal Haasan is striking a perfect balance between his movie and television commitments as well as his Makkal Needhi Maiam political party. He is currently in Erode campaigning for the Congress candidate EVKS Elangovan in the Erode East Constituency byelections.
In his speech to a large gathering in Erode Kamal recalled how in 2013 the then chief minister the late J. Jayalalitha allegedly troubled him during the release of his movie 'Vishwaroopam'. He stated in Tamil "The lady made me stumble and ridiculed me in 2013. Karunanidhi contacted me and asked me if I needed any help and the current Chief Minister M.K. Stalin did the same. I replied to them that this is not a national issue and I will handle it and I did it without bowing to the pressure."
It is well documented that during the release of 'Vishwaroopam' Islamic organizations requested the then Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to ban the film because it contained anti-Muslim scenes. Kamal had alleged that the agitation was orchestrated by the ruling party and Jayalalitha of harboring personal vengeance against him. He also claimed that the AIADMK wanted him to fall at their leader's feet to get relief from the issue.
Kamal went to the people via a press conference in which he stated that he did not want to live in that fascist regime and wanted to leave the state. Several Indian state leaders invited Kamal to settle in their land. The Ulaganayagan then moved court and 'Vishwaroopam' in which he acted, produced and directed released after a few days delay. The film created box office history by being the second film after Superstar Rajinikanth's 'Enthiran' to cross the rupees two hundred crores collections worldwide.
Kamal is currently shooting for Shankar's 'Indian 2' and will soon start 'KH233' directed by H. Vinoth and later move on to 'KH234' directed by Mani Ratnam which is jointly produced by Red Giant Movies, Madras Talkies and Raaj Kamal Films International.
