It is a well known fact that actress Gauthami who was one of the leading heroines of South Indian film industry in late 80s and 90s is making an acting comeback in the Tamil film Papanasam` in which she plays the wife of Kamal Haasan.

Appreciating the performance of Gauthami in the Tamil remake of Malayalam blockbuster Drishyam`, actor Kamal Haasan said he felt guilty for not letting Gauthami act for long. He also said “Gauthami is a top heroine for me even today”. However Gauthami in her speech at the Press meet organised to publicize the film said she had no regrets for not acting for a long time. Kamal and Gauthami reprise the roles played by Mohan Lal and Meena respectively in the Malayalam version.

It is to be noted that Papanasam` the fifth film in which Gauthami has paired up with Kamal, after Aboorva Sahodharargal`, Devar Magan`, Kurudhipunal` and Nammavar`. Kamal and Gauthami have been living together for the past few years.
