On Monday, Justice Chandrachud of the Hon'ble Supreme Court had suggested that people needn't have to stand up while the National Anthem is played in theatres to prove their patriotism. Come 9 Jan 2018, we will know whether the present rule will be recalled by the SC.
Meanwhile, the outspoken Kamal Hassan has let his views known. "Singapore plays it's national anthem every midnight.Likewise do so on DD. Do not force or test my patriotism at various random places," he says.
But why compare with Singapore? "The reason Singapore crops up in arguments is because it is a benevolent dictatorship according to some critics. Do we want that? No please," he clarifies.
Reacting on the issue, 'Dhruva' villain Arvind Swamy says, "I will always stand up for our Natl Anthem & sing along, which I do with great pride. Never understood why it was mandatory in cinema halls only. Why not every day in all govt offices, courts, before assembly and parliament sessions?"
