Actor Kamal Haasan has tendered an open apology to his fans and the people for supporting Prime Minister’s demonetization initiative in its early stages. “I now realize that I have committed a huge blunder by supporting the demonetization drive in its early phase; the Prime Minister too should express his apology to the people,” he said.
Kamal, who has been penning weekly article under the series Ennul Maiyam Konda Puyal (‘The Storm Which Lays Centred in Me’), has penned his thoughts about the much-crucified demonetization drive launched by the Modi-led BJP Govt. at the Centre. “When demonetization was announced, I supported the initiative hoping that it was the only means by which black-money launders could be kept in check.
“I also felt that people should put up with some difficulties in the national interest. Many of my friends and economists called me to express their severe criticism of my support. Later, I consoled myself saying that though demonetization was a noble initiative, the Centre had erred in the process of implementing it. Economists and others still kept criticizing the Centre hard for its demonetization drive.
“The weak replies from the Centre to the many criticisms leveled against its much-touted demonetization drive are proof enough of the fact that demonetization was ill-timed and ill-conceived. I apologize to all for supporting it in its initial phase; I also appeal to our Prime Minister not to remain adamant on the issue and tender an open apology to the people,” Kamal wrote thus in his article in Anandavikatan.
