Kallakurichi is all set to become the 33rd district of Tamilnadu. In an official announcement made today by the Tamilnadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy, he had declared the bifurcation of Villupuram district to form a new district with Kallakurichi as its headquarters.

Of the 251 announcements made in the Tamilnadu legislative assembly, a government order has been passed for 221, and the government order for the remaining 30 announcements will be passed soon, as per sources. With regard to this, Kallakurichi has today got announced as a separate district.

The newly formed district will include Kallakurichim Chinna Salem and Sankarapuram areas, and this announcement was made in reply to the governor's address in the assembly. It has been said that this decision was taken by the government after requests from various corners, and the new district will be administered by a special IAS officer.
