The epic sci-fi mythological blockbuster Kalki 2898 AD, featuring Prabhas and Deepika Padukone in lead roles, stormed the box office in June 2024 and left audiences eagerly awaiting its continuation. With its massive success, expectations surrounding the sequel are sky-high.
Earlier, director Nag Ashwin revealed that Kalki 2 was planned to go on floors by the end of 2025. However, in a recent podcast appearance, he clarified that the timeline might stretch further.
“I hope to start filming by the end of 2025. But a lot of things are connected to it—the actors need to come together, and some of the pre-visualized and action sequences are much bigger this time. So it will take some time. I don’t have an exact answer. Everyone is busy,” he explained.
The filmmaker further emphasized that even after filming begins, the post-production process will require significant time. “Hopefully in another 2 or 3 years, that’s what I think,” he said, suggesting fans will have to wait longer before the magnum opus returns to the big screen.
Kalki 2898 AD also starred Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan, with music by Santhosh Narayanan and production by Ashwini Dutt. The film blended futuristic themes with mythology, redefining the scale of Indian cinema.
