The Tamil Nadu government at the begining of the year issued an order allowing 100 percent occupancy in cinema theaters after repeated request from various film organizations and also top hero Thalapathy Vijay who met the chief minister personally wih the request to rescue the business.

However after the central ministry of health and the Madras HIgh Court objected to it citing the coronavirus threat the government has withdrawn the permission but has allowed extra shows on festive dates.

Kalaipuli S Thanu the President of the Film Federation of India has written to the Home Minister Amit Shah informing him of the poor state of the film industry and has requested him to allow 100 percent audiences at least on festival dates including Pongal, Sankranthi and Republic Day to give a boost to the industry that has been defunct for almost nine months since the pandemic. He has also assured the Minister that the theater managements would ensure that all necessary precautions would be taken without fail.
