Kalaipuli S Thanu one of the leading producers in Tamil cinema for the past four decades has also served as the head of the Tamil Film Producers Council for several years. The council is now run by a government-appointed officer after controversies arose between various factions against the Vishal headed office bearers.

Thanu today filed a lawsuit to get the medical insurance for the members of the TFPC to be paid from the stipulated fund allotted for the same. The judge while adjourning the case to the 20th of July also observed that TFPC May file a separate suit regarding the administration of the welfare trust of the council. Kalaipuli S Thanu has signed a three film deal with Dhanush and is also bankrolling 'Vaadivaasal' directed by Vettrimaaran and starring Suriya in the lead role. He is also releasing the Tamil version of Mohan Lal's epic multistarrer "Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham" directed by Priyadarshan and costarring Prabhu, Arjun, Sunil Shetty, Keerthy Suresh, Kalyani Priyadarshan and Pranav Mohan Lal.
