Actor and dancer RLV Ramakrishnan, younger brother of late actor Kalabhavan Mani, tried to kill himself and has been admitted to a private hospital since Saturday evening. Ramakrishnan is said to have consumed an overdose of sleeping pills and was found lying unconscious at his house by his friends. According to doctors at the Apollo Hospital, where he is admitted, his condition is stable.

Though the exact reasons behind the incident have not come out, RLV Ramakrishnan, a Dalit man, had recently accused Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi for denying him the opportunity to perform in an online event and alleged discrimination.

Going by the actor's Facebook post, the application of the dancer and actor R L V Ramakrishnan for presenting Mohiniyattam as part of Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy’s online cultural festival was allegedly rejected based on caste system.

“I have only one thing to say to the Akademi, who thinks it is a ‘blessing’ if dominant caste people do anything, even if it is wrong. I did not secure a diploma, post-diploma, M.Phil, Ph D in Mohiniyattam and cracked UGC-NET, by copying in exams. The Akademi is at times opportunistic in its behaviour,” he posted on Facebook.
